Double Knitting: Beyond the Basics – Renate Yerkes, Elephino PDX


Double knitting (DK), that amazing knitting method that makes luxuriously plush, reversible 2-color fabric, is even more satisfying to knit when going beyond the basics. With a little extra know-how, you'll be ready for shaping your DK knits; learn how to increase and decrease stitches the DK way and how charts and a variety of cast-on and bind-off methods have been beautifully adapted to this dynamic technique!

Level: Intermediate (or previous knowledge of basic double knitting) , some knowledge of shaping techniques, like increases and decreases. Helpful to attend a "Intro to Double Knitting" workshop

Bring: Double pointed needles or straight needles, anywhere from 4 mm to 6 mm in size, 2 separate worsted yarns in contrasting colors, stitch markers, scissors, pencils and pens.

Renate Yerkes, of Elephino PDX, loves being part of the "slow fashion" movement and designs with a fresh spin on traditional knitwear construction. Empowering makers to gain 'know-how' on new techniques in knitting through the patterns and workshops she offers is a principle aim. Her #1 aim, however, is that every design encapsulates FUN, function and beauty! Renate works as an artist in Portland, Oregon, her place of residence.
